Resident FAQs: using Bloomz in your city

Modified on: Fri, Sep 25, 2026, 2:16 PM

What Bloomz looks like if your city or municipality uses it, and how to get the most out of it as a resident.

What is Bloomz for my city, and what will I actually see?

Your city is organized into Departments (like Public Works or the City Clerk's Office) and Neighborhoods or Community Organizations — joining lets you receive posts, messages and alerts from the City and from whichever of those groups you're part of, the same way a Bloomz school works for a family. See Set up your city's departments, neighborhoods and community groups for how your city's own admins organize this on their end.

How do I join my city on Bloomz?

The same way you'd join any Bloomz group — through an invitation your city or a specific department/neighborhood sends you, or an access code they share publicly. If you're not sure which group to join, your city's own office or neighborhood association is the right place to ask.

What happened to Alert Zones? I remember hearing about them.

Alert Zones was retired. Posts are now targeted by picking a specific Neighborhood or Community Organization group directly, rather than drawing a zone on a map — as a resident, that just means the alerts and updates you get are whatever your Neighborhood or Department group sends, with no separate zone map for you to configure. Setting up neighborhood boundaries themselves is an admin-only tool on the city's side.

Can I comment on my city's meeting agendas?

Yes, once you're a signed-in member of your city's group — open Agendas & Minutes from your city to see upcoming and past meetings, and comment on any individual agenda item with a Support, Oppose or Neutral position. The same agenda list is also published on your city's public website with no sign-in required. See Find and comment on your city's meeting agendas for the full walkthrough.

Do I need to pay for City Premium as a resident?

No. City Premium is a subscription the city itself manages — it's what unlocks the full City feature set and gives Premium-level access to the city's own admins and staff. There's no separate resident-priced subscription; nothing in Bloomz asks a resident to pay for it individually.

Is a Household the same as my Bloomz account?

No — a Household is the city's record of your home address and everyone linked to it, set up by the city's admins (often from a roster import), not something you create yourself. You can be a resident with your own Household in a city and separately a parent in a school district's own Bloomz account at the same time; the two never merge. See Understand households in Bloomz for cities for how your city's admins manage that record.
