Your invitation or join code isn't working

Codes and invitation links stop working for a small number of reasons, and they are all fixable.

Check these first

1. Is it the whole code? Codes are not case-sensitive — upper- or lowercase both work — but they are often copied with a trailing space or a line break. Type it by hand rather than pasting if it keeps failing.
2. Has it expired? Invitations do not last forever. If yours is old, ask for a fresh one — resending is quick for whoever invited you.
3. Is it meant for this address? An invitation sent to one address will not accept a different one. Sign in with, or sign up using, the exact address the invitation was sent to.
4. Do you already have an account? If so, sign in first, then use the code. Trying to create a second account with the same address is the most common dead end, and it produces a confusing "already in use" message.
5. Was the class archived, deleted, or has the code been reset? A join code only works for a class that is still active — if the teacher or school archived or deleted the class, its old codes stop working immediately. A code can also be reset from the class's settings, which mints a brand-new code and retires the old one for good; an old code someone bookmarked or wrote down will not come back. Ask whoever manages the class to confirm it is still active and to share its current code.

If it still does not work

Ask the person who invited you to check that your address is spelled correctly on their side, and to resend. A single wrong character produces exactly this symptom, and it cannot be fixed from your end.

Watch out: do not create a second account with a different email address to get around this. It will not be connected to your child, and the school will not see you on their list — which usually surfaces weeks later as "why am I not getting anything?"
